Raffaele De Rosa
Raffaele De Rosa is a cultured painter, far removed from the pursuit of effect for its own sake. His dreams spill out of the canvas, sometimes gently, sometimes forcefully, blurring past and future.
His cities might be ancient villages, yet the architecture escapes familiar geometry: fantastic figures move through the landscapes, some sharply defined, others faded, alongside alien animals. His painting does not narrate but illustrates: it evokes scenes and guides the imagination of the viewer.
De Rosa replaces everyday reality with a theatrical creation, nourished by memory, reading, legend, myth and history. East and West coexist in his paintings, along with a taste for synthesis and an attraction to arabesque and decoration; Gothic architecture meets non-naturalistic light. The result is a fantastic cartography, where everything makes sense within a parallel geometry.
