Giovan Francesco Gonzaga
Giovan Francesco Gonzaga (Milan, 1921 – 2007) was a refined self-taught painter and sculptor, a descendant of the illustrious house of Mantua. Universally known as “the painter who whispered to horses”, he built much of his fame on the dynamic, epic depiction of these animals, as well as on historical scenes and battles.
Over his distinguished career he worked alongside masters such as Giorgio de Chirico and received important institutional honours, including the Ambrogino d'Oro of the City of Milan and the Gold Medal of Pope John Paul II.
