Ugo Nespolo
Ugo Nespolo wurde in Mosso Santa Maria (Biella) geboren und studierte an der Accademia Albertina in Turin, wo er seinen Abschluss machte; anschließend schloss er ein Studium der modernen Literatur ab. In den Sechzigerjahren wandte er sich der Pop Art und den neuen Avantgarden zu und stellte in der Galleria Il Punto in Turin und der Galleria Schwarz in Mailand aus.
Sein Werk lässt sich keiner einzelnen Richtung zuordnen: Kennzeichnend sind Ironie, spielerischer Geist und eine Vorliebe für das Nebeneinanderstellen von Elementen, mit Bezügen von der Renaissance bis zur zeitgenössischen Szene. In den Siebzigerjahren drehte er experimentelle Künstlerfilme; in den folgenden Jahrzehnten bewegte er sich zwischen Plakaten, Keramik, Glas mit Barovier & Toso, Künstlerbüchern, Bühnenbildern und Kostümen für das Teatro dell'Opera di Roma sowie öffentlichen Werken wie dem Auftrag für die Stationen der Turiner U-Bahn.
Zu seinen wichtigsten Ausstellungen zählen die Werkschau „La Bella Insofferenza“ in der Villa Croce in Genua (1986), die Retrospektive im Palazzo Reale in Mailand (1990) und „Nespolo + Napoli“ im Palazzo Reale in Neapel (2000) sowie Einzelausstellungen in New York, Paris, Peking und Hongkong.
