Francesco Nesi was born in San Casciano Val di Pesa in 1952 and lives and works in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, in the Chianti hills. A self-taught painter, he achieved his first successes in Florence in 1985 and went on to exhibit in many Italian cities and, from 1997, in the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Portugal, Spain and France.

His paintings, rich in colour and imagination, reinterpret the places and landscapes of Tuscan culture in a dreamlike key, with the moon and the Chianti as recurring sources of inspiration; he has been described as an exponent of “Tuscany's imaginative surrealism”.
